In anticipation of mosquito season, the City of Great Bend Public Works Department will begin fogging on Thursday, June 4, weather permitting.
Spraying will occur weekly on Thursdays for the next five weeks between 8 p.m. and midnight. The public works department will monitor mosquito activity throughout the month to determine if additional spraying dates are needed.
To reduce the risk of inhaling chemicals, residents are advised to avoid going outdoors for at least 30 minutes to an hour after fogging takes place.
The city utilizes two vehicles each containing different mosquito-control chemicals. One truck operates on the east side of town and the other on the west end, alternating coverage each week.
Fogging cannot take place during heavy rain as precipitation will wash away the insecticide. If weather diverts the scheduled spraying dates, the city will adjust accordingly.
