Sunflower Diversified Services supporters from throughout central Kansas raised just over $55,000 at the non-profit agency’s recent 20th annual Charity Gala.
“We couldn’t be more grateful for this amazing response from the approximately 230 Sunflower supporters who attended this event to advocate for people with developmental disabilities and delays,” said Cody Harris, director of planned giving and community support. “There was a great mix of newcomers and our loyal supporters who have been with us through the years.”
Attendees represented each of the five counties in Sunflower’s service territory – Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford.
Of the total raised, $12,000 was earmarked for the Invest in Kids program. McKinley Phillips, director of Sunflower Early Education Center, spoke to the audience, outlining its many programs.
“McKinley is passionate about providing early-intervention services to infants and toddlers,” Harris said. “That passion came through loud and clear and the attendees responded.
“Everyone who donated their money, time or talents to the Gala can be assured that all proceeds directly help their neighbors in our local communities,” Harris added. “Without our generous donors, this annual event could not be successful. We are so blessed to serve such a giving community.”
Gala proceeds help finance adaptive equipment, medical and dental care, and more.
Harris also noted that Wild Hair Auctions, Denver, deserves credit for its role in raising much-needed funds.
“These auctioneers specialize in charity events,” Harris commented. “They also served as emcees and shared a lot of energy. They were having fun and it was contagious.”
Lightfoot and Buehler provided musical entertainment, while “bringing good vibes to everyone in the audience,” Harris related.
Also on the agenda was a Rock, Paper, Scissors competition. Lindsay Coombs won a Championship Belt and bragging rights.
Sunflower serves infants, toddlers and adults in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties. It is in its 59th year.
