Stafford County looks at budget proposals

ST. JOHN — These are the minutes from the Stafford County Board of County Commissioner meeting.

The Stafford County Board of County Commissioners met on Wednesday, May 27, in the Commission Room in the Annex. Chairman Garner called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Present: Bryce Garner, Todd Wycoff and Jim Stanford.

R.J. Meyer with Strong’s Insurance met with the commission board regarding the opportunity to quote the county’s insurance.

Misty Rudy, EMS Director, presented her 2027 budget proposal. She highlighted 2026 expenses and discussed the current status of the department.

Commissioner Garner moved, and Commissioner Wycoff seconded, to recess to executive session to discuss a non-elected personnel issue. Motion carried 3-0. Those present: Commissioners, County Clerk, Misty Rudy. Open session to resume at 9:07 a.m.

Shannon Snyder, Health Department Director, presented her 2027 budget proposal. She also presented the WIC agreement for 2027 for the commission to sign. Commissioner Garner moved, and Commissioner Wycoff seconded, to sign the WIC agreement. Motion carried 3-0. An unsafe property issue was also discussed. Shannon then gave a reminder regarding the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

Darren Reed, Solid Waste Director, presented his 2027 budget proposal. He discussed the changes for 2027.

Gina Schwein, Communications, presented her 2027 budget proposal. She highlighted changes for next year.

Mike Sanders, Emergency Management, presented the 2027 budget proposal.

Steve Sandoval, Southwest Developmental Services, Inc., presented an allocation request for 2027. He discussed the services provided by SDSI and how the funding they receive is utilized.

Commissioner Wycoff moved, and Commissioner Stanford seconded, to approve the minutes from the May 20th meeting. Motion carried 3-0.

Matt Appleton with Stafford County Golf Course met with the commissioners regarding the past year’s activity at the golf course. He thanked the commission for their continuing support.

Commissioner Garner moved, and Commissioner Stanford seconded, to recess to executive session to discuss a non-elected personnel issue. Motion carried 3-0. Those present: Commissioners, County Clerk, Gina Schwein. Open session to resume at 10:50 a.m.

During the meeting payroll vouchers and checks were signed from the following funds:

General - $18,455.14

Road - $353,498.24

Health - $744.21

Fire - $91.50

Noxious Weed - $150.55

Appraiser - $ 2,122

Solid Waste - $207.65

EMS - $ 1,882.98

E911 - $1,511.13

PHEP Grant - $86.06

Total - $378,751.46
